What are laser cutting services?

Laser cutting services use a focused beam to cut flat metal to a drawing with no dies and no tooling. Carbotech Manufacturing runs a Mazak 510 laser at its Roebuck, South Carolina plant, cutting aluminium, stainless steel, and mild steel up to one inch thick on a five-foot by ten-foot bed.

Cut parts are usually the first step in a larger job, not the end of it. That is why the laser at Carbotech Manufacturing sits in the same building as the welders, the machining, the assembly bench, and the paint booth. You can order cut blanks and take them away. You can also have the same shop weld them into a finished assembly and ship it painted. Either way, the parts never leave the property between operations.

What our laser cutting services include

  • Cutting in aluminium, stainless steel, and mild steel
  • Capacity up to one inch thick on a five-foot by ten-foot bed
  • No dies and no tooling, so a single part carries no tooling cost
  • Drawing review before the first sheet gets cut
  • Sawing, plasma cutting, and 60-ton ironworker capacity for heavier sections
  • Welding and assembly if the parts need to become a finished unit
  • In-house painting and finish
  • Inspection under a quality system built to ISO 9001:2015 standards

How laser cutting works at our Roebuck plant

The beam melts a narrow path through the sheet while assist gas clears the molten metal from the cut. Because nothing touches the material, thin parts stay flat and detailed shapes hold their form.

01

File and drawing review

We check your geometry, thickness, and material before quoting so surprises surface early.

02

Material selection

Aluminium, stainless steel, and mild steel each cut differently, and thickness drives the settings.

03

Cutting

Parts run on the Mazak 510, nested to use the sheet efficiently and reduce scrap.

04

Deburr and check

Cut parts get cleaned up and checked against the drawing.

05

Next operation or shipment

Parts either ship as blanks or move to welding, machining, assembly, and paint in the same building.

What size parts can your laser cut?

The bed measures five feet by ten feet, which sets the largest single part we can cut in one piece. Thickness runs to one inch. Larger assemblies get built from multiple cut pieces and welded together in the same shop, so overall size is rarely the limiting factor on a finished job.

Reference — ISO 9013 thermal cutting classification

Cut quality is measured, not judged by eye

Shops describe cut quality in vague terms. The international standard does not. ISO 9013 classifies thermal cuts using measurable criteria including perpendicularity and surface roughness, and it covers laser cuts from 0.5 mm through 32 mm of thickness. That upper limit sits just above the one-inch capacity of our machine.

The practical value for a buyer is simple. Quality becomes something both sides can agree on in writing before the job runs. If your drawing calls out an edge condition, say so at quoting rather than after delivery. Carbotech Manufacturing runs a quality system built to ISO 9001:2015 standards, with checks at each handoff instead of one inspection at the end.

Frequently asked questions

Aluminium, stainless steel, and mild steel. Each behaves differently through the cut, and thickness drives the settings and the edge condition you end up with. Tell us the alloy and the thickness with your drawing, and we will confirm what the machine holds before quoting the job.

Laser cutting uses no dies and no punches, so there is no tooling to build or amortise the way a stamped part would require. That is why a single prototype and a production batch can run from the same file. Ask Jon Comber directly about pricing on your specific job.

Single parts are normal work here. Without tooling, a one-off carries no die cost, which is what usually makes small quantities expensive elsewhere. Larger runs get nested across the sheet to reduce scrap. Send the quantity along with the drawing so we can quote it accurately.

That is your choice. Many customers collect cut blanks and finish them in their own shop. Others have us weld, machine, assemble, and paint the parts into a finished unit before shipment. Keeping those steps in one building removes a shipping leg from your schedule.

Send your drawing files, the material, the thickness, and the quantity. Jon Comber handles quoting directly rather than routing it through a sales desk. He will confirm the file format we need if your drawings come from a system we have not worked with before.

Laser cutting services are most useful when the shop doing the cutting can also weld, machine, finish, and inspect what it cuts. Carbotech Manufacturing keeps all of that in one building in Roebuck, South Carolina. Send a drawing and a quantity to start.
